The Medifast 5 & 1 Plan

The Plan is simple: eat a Medifast Portion Controlled Replacement Meal (PCMR) five times a day, 2-3 hours apart, and one Lean & Green Meal for lunch or dinner. Each PCMR is formulated to provide your body with 110 calories and 20% of the minerals, vitamins and nutrients needed to maintain normal metabolism.

Eating every 2-3 hours allows your body to avoid spiking of blood sugars and low production of  insulin. The role of insulin is to help move the glucose from the foods we consume into our cells. When we bombard our body with too much food, the insulin pump overworks. Overtime this is what leads to Metabolic Syndrome (high blood sugar levels, high blood pressure, elevated cholesterol, excess abdominal fat).

You also get one Lean & Green  Meal to eat at the time that works best for you. For the Lean, you’ll have 5-7 ounces of lean protein; the Green is three servings of low-glycemic vegetables. Depending on your source of protein, you’ll get some healthy fat, too, and that will help keep you full and satisfied.

The combination of 5 Medifast Portion Controlled Replacement Meal and one Lean & Green Meal per day is approximately 1,000 to 1,200 calories per day with 100% of the minerals, vitamins and nutrients needed to maintain normal metabolism.

Once you’ve reached your goal weight, you’ll begin to transition, adding extra servings of fruits, vegetables, and healthy sources of protein.
